SUBJECT: Every Journey Begins with the First Step . . .

“No one can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can
start today and make a new ending”

Over the last several months, the members of the ILR Board of Directors have begun to put legs on the above saying and have redoubled their efforts to shape the ILR into an organization that will continue to contribute to a brighter future for all llama owners.

Over the past five years, they have been quietly laying the groundwork to ensure that the ILR will also continue to be an efficient organization that is responsive to its members. While reviewing each of the programs and functions within the ILR, it became obvious that over the last five years, the ILR has become an umbrella organization for several distinct functions.

In recognition of that fact, the ILR Board has reorganized itself to place primary responsibility for each of four “divisions” with one or more of the board members. The intention is to free most of the board from dealing with the details of every division and allow them to deal in more depth with their division. While the board as a whole will still need to approve any actions taken in each of the divisions, the board member(s) assigned to each division will take primary responsibility for goal setting, responding to member concerns and balancing the budget of “their” division.

The assignments are as follows:

Registry Division – Kristy Brown

Show Division – Mary Jo Miller and Bill Safreed

ILR Registry – Kathi McKinney

International Llama Foundation* – Karen Baum, DVM

*The International Llama Foundation is an independent 501(c)3 organization that is governed by the ILR Board of Directors and whose primary goal is to educate the public and llama owners about llamas.

If you have suggestions or questions about any of the divisions of the ILR, or if you would like to volunteer to help with any of the divisions, please contact the board member(s) responsible for that division. As the ILR continues to grow toward being an all-encompassing llama organization, your ideas and help will become increasingly important.
