The 's eVISION 2

SUBJECT: The future is not someplace we are going to, but . . .

“The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created – created first in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating.”

FIRST STEP Cooperate
Last week we introduced the first step in growing the ILR into an all-encompassing llama organization that cooperates with other llama organizations and llama owners to provide all the services and information necessary for individual llama owners and the llama community in general to thrive.

SECOND STEP Reassess
To actually create a bright future for the llama community, we will need to reassess, and in some cases, fundamentally change how the llama community does its business. Most people are resistant to change and often tend to reject something new by saying, "But that is not the way we have always done it." We as an industry need to be willing to consider a philosophical change to create a brighter future. We need to learn from the past and find better ways of doing things! The ILR BOD needs the input and support of llama owners to accomplish this.

The ILR is taking steps to become the catalyst for taking the idea of a thriving llama community in the future and translating that idea into actions in the present. We believe we (the llama community) need to reach out to the non-llama community by working in two major areas:

THIRD STEP – Outreach through Education

1)   We need to begin to include or expand “outreach” activities in existing llama events as well as begin llama events in new areas. There are many shows, clinics, parades and fun events across the country that are already successfully doing these things and we hope to highlight some of those programs and spread those bright spots in llama outreach to new parts of the country.

2)   We need to create a new educational website that can educate and guide new people with an interest in llamas through the initial curiosity phase and all the way through the buying phase. Educating them on types of llamas, fencing and shelter to protect llamas, health care for llamas, activities they can participate in with llamas and finally, where and what to look for when buying llamas. This website will be built through the International Llama Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation that is overseen by the ILR Board of Directors. Basic ILF information including a link to the donation form can be found at: www.internationalllamafoundation.org. Contributions to the ILF are fully tax deductible, even if your llama activities are not a business.

Back to Step One Often Cooperate
We feel the need to encourage cooperation within the llama community to work together to bring about a resurgence of interest in llamas and a brighter future for all of us. Working together we can create a cohesive national education program that outlines the benefits and joys of owning llamas.

Stayed tuned for FUTURE STEPS in upcoming e-VISIONs
Future eVISIONs will provide more specifics on how the llama community can create a different future than the path we are now on. Please send your thoughts and ideas to the
ilr@lamaregistry.com. The ILR is your organization and the only way it and the llama community will flourish, is with your help.

Sincerely,

The ILR Board of Directors
