1. Rules:

Items to
be considered for GB meeting from Guidance and Rules Committee:

Adult Showmanship – currently the points received in
open/adult showmanship are being credited to the llama
shown. The Guidance and Rules Committee, the halter
committee and the judging committee have been kicking this
around for a week now. Our proposal is: The clerks need to
put the name of the exhibitor in open/adult showmanship on
the report for and their owner code from the ILR on the
report form. That will allow the points then to go to the
person showing the animal in open/adult showmanship. The ILR
could list on the website the persons name and points
accumulated in open/adult showmanship. The people wanting to
have something in “print” on this could print out a
certificate similar in appearance to the ones generated for
COA and COE that are currently mailed out to the llama
owners. This would be at no expense to ILR –SD for printing.
Motion to approve the proposal as written above.
Motion by Kristy, second by Fran. Motion passed unanimously.
Points would start being recorded effective January 1, 2011.

In the
Guidebook – Section III – EXHIBITORS
A.
Individuals who may not Exhibit. It is recommended this be
changed to read as follows:
“1. Superintendents, Judges and Apprentice
Judges:
a).
Superintendents are not allowed to show their own animals at a
show where they are acting as superintendent. However, some
other exhibitor may show their animals at said show . . .
b).
Apprentices are NOT allowed to exhibit at any show where they
are apprenticing. The entire focus of the apprenticeship should
and must be on the apprenticeship and what they are learning and
judging. Entering and showing animals at a show where the
apprentice is doing an apprenticeship would be a distraction and
take away from the entire learning environment.
c). At any
particular show, Judges may not show their animals in any show
that they may be judging, nor may anyone else show their animals
in divisions they may be judging. ie: A Fleece Judge may not
show their animals in halter and/or performance but may have
someone else do so. Further, a halter or performance judge may
have someone show their animals in fleece on or shorn fleece
classes.

Guidebook – Section IV. Judges and Apprentices
A.
Rules for
Judges and Apprentices:
1.
Only
teaching judges will be allowed to accept apprentices. An
apprentice MAY NOT apprentice under two (2) different judges in
the same show division at the same time. An apprentice may
not receive credit for an apprenticeship under two different
judges in the same show division at the same time. An apprentice
may apprentice under one judge as a halter apprentice and
under another as a performance apprentice; or under one
judge in both halter and performance divisions. If
multiple divisions are running at the same time (ie. Fleece show
same day as halter show day), the apprentice must choose which
division they want to apprentice under. This will eliminate an
apprentice accomplishing two (2) apprenticeships at one time, ie:
apprenticing under both judges at a double judged show in both
halter and performance would count only as one apprenticeship.

Score
cards for halter and showmanship. Currently the score cards
do not indicate any specific number of llamas needing to be
placed for points in the ILR-SD. The Point Chart indicates
the number of points that a llama can earn based on the size
of the class. Judges would place a maximum of ten entries in
a class on the card. Returned to committee for verbiage.

Fleece Products – who should/how should
points be earned be applied:
The Rules and Guidance committee have discussed and the consensus of opinion is that points should
be awarded to the individual submitting the item(s) for judging. There would be no way to know which
llama/alpaca the fleece was actually from to apply any points. The points would have to be accounted
for the same way they would be in Open/Adult Showmanship – ie: clerk will have to fill in the
exhibitors ILR owner code, the name of the exhibitor and that the item was “fleece produce.”
Thereafter the ILR would be able to credit those points earned to the individual through their ILR
owner code and using the embedded number assigned to each individual under their owner code.
Further, the Rules and Guidance Committee feels that if the exhibitor has entered animals in a show,
there should be no additional charge for entering fleece products for judging. This would mean that
an animal(s) would have to be entered in halter, performance, fleece on, shorn fleece or any
combination thereof. They would have paid the $2.00 per head fee already, so there would be no need
to pay the $2.00 per head fee on a fleece product entered. IF, however, the exhibitor is not
exhibiting animals in the above indicated classes, or if the exhibitor is a fiber craft person that
does not show or own llamas, then they would have to obtain a personal tracking number from the ILR,
much as a non-registered animal obtains a tracking number (this to be renewed on an annual basis),
and would have to pay the $2.00 per head fee to enter fleece products for judging.

Composite Class tabulation and scoring.
There have been issues of misunderstanding, miscalculation, etc. in scoring for the Composite Class,
which is a combination of scores received for llamas entered in halter and fleece on classes.
After much discussion, working through the tables, etc. Attached are recommended tables for
computation of the scores, an explanation of how to do the computation, etc. This can be done by the
clerk as the halter placings come in from each class, and the fleece on scores are known and the
winner announced similar to the performance champions are announced. No additional ring time
is required.
Please refer to the following schedule and scoring charts.
1. Purpose of the Composite Award
The
purpose of the composite award is to both award animals with
exceptional conformation and fleece characteristics, and to also
encourage participation in both the halter and fleece classes.
2. Eligibility for the Composite Award
Animals that have participated in both an ILR-SD approved halter
class (suri, silky, classic, light-medium, medium-heavy or
extreme heavy) and an ILR-SD approved Fleece-On class (coat on,
suri, single coat with crimp, single coat without crimp or
double coat) are eligible to receive a composite award.
3. Implementation of the Composite Award
Use Point Assignment Form for Composite tabulation for points awarded.
NOTE: Composite Point Chart immediately following this section for use in point tabulation.
The award will incorporate the points awarded for both halter and fleece on classes. The points used
will be either the halter/fleece class points or if the animal participated in the championship class,
those points will be awarded, whichever is higher.
Method for scoring:
First score the composite class from points earned in halter and fleece on. If llama went on from halter
class to place in Grand & Reserve and the points awarded for the placing in Grand & Reserve is higher,
use the Grand & Reserve points. Then figure the points from the fleece on class. All points, with the
exception of the Grand & Reserve, are figured on the number of competitors in the class. Grand & Reserve
points are figured on total number in the division. Initially placings are done simply by the use of
points earned in classes and/or Grand & Reserve.
For tie breakers –1st tie breaker: Go to which ever llama placed highest in their halter class
regardless of number in the class; if need 2nd tie breaker then go to the llama that placed
highest in their fleece on class again, regardless of the number in the class; if a 3rd tie
breaker is needed, go to the total scores on the judges score sheets for fleece on.
Animal with most points total wins the Composite class
Example:
Animal A = 5 points in halter
= 5 points in fleece on
Total score = 10 points

Animal B = 3 points in halter
= 7 points in fleece on
Total score = 10 points
Winner is Animal A due to total points in halter placing
ILR-SD points awarded in composite awards will be based on the
number of animals qualifying for the awards. Show management has
the discretion to offer composite awards in each fleece on
divisions, or if overall participants are law, they may combine
the divisions and give one group of fleece on awards. If
participant numbers are great enough, male, female and
non-breeder awards may be given as well.
These clarifications will go into the Guidebook effective
January 1, 2011.
Minis will be added to the approved halter class list above as
well.
2.
Performance: presented by Jim.
The
performance committee has begun reviewing the performance
sections of the guidelines to check for
inconsistencies and places where questions have arisen to help
clarify and improve them.
One item needing clarification is in the Guidelines on page 14
under #6 B. The motion from the performance committee before the
GB for the Tuesday evening meeting is to change from:

Once a Novice animal has received 35 points, they must move to
Advanced.
to
b)
Once a Novice animal has received 35 points in adult or youth
classes in a performance class category, they must move to
Advanced in that category. For example if a llama has earned 35
points in Novice obstacle/freestyle but only 10 points in Novice
PR/Companion, they must move to Advanced in freestyle but have
the option to remain in Novice IN PR/Companion until they have
earned 35 points in that category.
Motion to approve the change as stated above. Motion by
Pam, second by Beth. Motion passed unanimously. This change
becomes effective January 1, 2011.
3. Finance: presented by Kathi. Jan
presented the budget vs. actual income through July 2010, and we
are on schedule.
4. Fleece: presented by Fran.
Kristy and Fran summarized the fleece clinic held in WI.
The clinic showed a net of approximately $75 for the ILR and six
participants wishing to attain fleece judging certification.
5. Youth: presented by Kristy.
No
items for approval. The committee is working on the Youth
Judging program, youth program promotion and youth grant
programs.
6. Judges: presented by Beth.
No
items for approval. The committee is finalizing recommendations
for certification of the fleece judges attending the WI clinic.
This information will be available in the coming weeks and
participants will be notified as soon as those decisions are
made.
7. Halter: presented by Justin.
a.
The ILR-SD Mini Sub-Committee has discussed and taken a vote
regarding the proposed IMLF Mini Guidelines. We recommend that
the ILR-SD Mini Guidelines stay exactly as they are for the 2011
show season. Below are some of the reasons for not accepting the
proposed IMLF Mini Guidelines:
1. Vets are
not certified measurers. They are no more able to measure a
llama correctly than a mini llama owner.
2. Fiber types of llamas are
not pre-checked by a vet for a certain fiber division. It is
decided at a show whether or not a llama should be in a certain
fiber division.
3. A llama can grow between
the time a vet certifies the llama’s height and the actual show
date.
4. Little stress is caused to
llamas being measured. Most mini llamas are quite used to being
measured on the farm.
5. Other miniature industries,
like miniature horses, require all horses to be measured at the
show with the same measuring device and the same person
measuring to determine if they can compete in the show or not.
Motion to accept the
recommendations of the ILR-SD Miniature subgroup and not change
the mini guidelines for 2011. Motion by Pam, second by Jim.

b. The halter committee has
submitted a second set of guidelines to describe the silky and
suri divisions. The fleece committee will give an opinion on the
guidelines as well and it will be presented again at the next
meeting.

Business:
The
current rule is there is a one $50 sanctioning fee per event,
but per animal fees would apply to each show held under that
event. For example, a dual show would pay one sanctioning fee
and the per animal fee would be times two or a quad show would
pay one sanctioning fee and the per animal fee would be times
four. Some shows have not understood the per animal fee would
apply per show. No changes to this current rule were made.
