YOUTH COMMITTEE Minutes
November 1, 2012

Time: 9:00 pm EST

In attendance: Matt Fruits, Debbie Shellabarger, Kati McCrone, Michelle Kutzler, Seth Onsager, Karen Baum

Action items are in green.

I.        ILR-SD Adult Judging and Adult Judge Mentoring Programs

a.       The committee was in agreement that this is not within the purview of the ILR-SD Youth Committee.

b.       Decisions regarding these programs should be left for the Guidelines Committee.

II.     ILR-SD Youth Judge Mentoring Program

a.       There was some discussion about the amount of clarification and work still needed to bring this program to the Governing Committee.

b.       At this time, the ILR-SD Youth Committee is in agreement that work on this program should be tabled until January 2013.

III.   ILR-SD Division Youth Judging Program

a.       The goal is to have this program implemented in 2013 and in order to do this; the program needs to be brought to the Governing Committee at their next meeting.

b.       There was extensive discussion led predominately by Debbie on necessary changes to the ILR-SD Judging Competition document.

                                                               i.      4 animals needed to be included in each competition and this needed to be specified.

ii.      The Hormel Scoring system needed to be used for halter, showmanship and free style obstacle and this needed to be specified.

iii.      The Hormel Scoring system will not work for fleece scoring (per Mary Jo Miller via Matt Fruits—separate phone call during conference call) but this was not a problem.

iv.      None of the participants should give written reasons (because they are too difficult to read—even for the participants). Intermediates and Seniors should give oral reasons and juniors should take a test; similar to how it is in ALSA and other youth judging competitions.

                                                             v.      Scoring should be performed by either a computer program to quickly judge the score cards or a clerk to hand tally the Hormel Scoring for the score cards.

c.       Michelle tracked these changes to the best of her ability on the document entitled ILR-SD Youth Judging Competition (revised 11/1/12) and submitted this along with these minutes and copies of the ALSA youth judging documents to the ILR-SD Youth Committee members via email.

d.       ILR-SD Youth Committee members will respond to Michelle with their comments/changes to the revised Youth Judging Competition document as soon as possible and no later than Sunday, November 4, 2012.

IV.   Adjournment

a.       Michelle motioned to adjourn, Debbie 2nded the motion; motion to adjourn passed unanimously.

b.       Meeting adjourned at 10:04 pm EST

Respectfully submitted by Michelle Kutzler
