New for 2013
An update for the ILR Show Division Members

The ILR Show Division (ILR-SD) committees have worked hard again in 2012 re-evaluating and continuing to develop the ILR-SD guidelines for the members. We have listened to the positives and negatives expressed to us by the membership and taken their opinion into consideration at the appropriate committees. The ILR-SD Governing Board would like to share some of the new features for 2013.

ILR-SD Member Insurance - we have purchased liability insurance for the ILR-SD members! All ILR-SD members are covered by the policy at any ILR-SD show. An added bonus for sanctioning your show with the ILR-SD!

International Gathering of Friends & Champions will be held June 14-16, 2013, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, IA. New for this year is the Llama Futurity Association will be holding their event at the same location, same weekend. This is a very positive cooperative effort for two national organizations and a win-win for the memberships. We are also adding Youth Judging and Special Needs classes to the 2013 event.

Youth Judging Competition – yes, Youth Judging is now an approved point class in the ILR-SD. Show management has the flexibility to offer one to four Youth Judging divisions – Halter, Performance, Showmanship or Shorn Fleece – as few or as many as you want to have at your Show!

Fleece Judging Revisited – the fleece committee has talked to exhibitors, show management, judges and end-users to re-evaluate the fleece judging program. The following changes have been made to the Fleece program:

Revised score cards – the cards have been simplified and combined to a single card for Singe/Double/Suri and a separate card for Coat-On.

Revised Weighted Fleece Chart – over 325 fleece weights were evaluated representing 11 farms in 11 states, and these figures were used to adjust the Weighted Fleece Chart.

Revised Point Scoring System – the point value for Weighted fleece was reduced to 5 points, and other judging categories were combined and points redistributed.

Judges Guidelines Reassessed – the judges' committee has expanded some areas of the guidelines and eliminated others. Grandfather clauses have been removed and Fast-Track has been redefined. A Judge’s Code of Ethics has been formalized and will be included in the Guidelines.

Thank you to those whose terms on the ILR-SD Committees have expired: Fran Soukup, Amy Serridge, Seth Onsager, Beth Myers, Erin Fruits & Linda Leake. Thank you also to the 2012 Governing Board Members: Pam Tait, Beth Myers, Erin Fruits, Judy Ross, Harvey Pool, Deb Arendas and Matt Fruits. Your time commitment made for the membership is immeasurable and much appreciated.

The new 2013 Guidelines are posted on the ILR website. As always, we appreciate your thoughts, comments, concerns and constructive criticism to help the ILR-SD continue to excel and provide a valuable program for our membership and the Llama Community.

Alone we struggle; TOGETHER we THRIVE!
