There is a CAMPGROUND on site at the Iowa State Fairgrounds as well – it is located on the hill top above the show barn – wooded sites, showers, electric, water hookup available.  Camping is offered through the Fairgrounds, not the Gathering. No need to reserve a space ahead of time.
