EIGHT WAYS TO WIN!
The first way to win is to simply enjoy doing things with your llama. Simply getting outside and enjoying the companionship of a llama is a reward in itself. As Garrison Keillor stated, “The world would be a better place if all young people had a llama!”
If you would like to add a little spice to the things you already do with your llama, you could join the ILR as a youth member ($10) and participate in the second way to win – the ILR Universal Awards Program. The UAP awards points for any activity you do with a llama – hiking, parades, nursing home visits, shows, reports on llamas, and so on. After participating in an activity, simply go to the ILR website and enter your activity in the UAP log. When you have accumulated 25 points, you will receive Certificate of Achievement documenting your Activities. When you have accumulated 40 points, you will receive a Certificate of Excellence.
If the llama you are using is registered with the ILR, you will have a third way to win because the llama will also be able to accumulate points. When you have accumulated 25 points, you will receive Certificate of Achievement documenting your Activities. When you have accumulated 40 points, you will receive a Certificate of Excellence. Earning three grands . . . will earn the llama a championship trophy.
By joining the ILR and entering your activities in the UAP program, you will automatically be entered in the fourth way to win - Any points earned will also enter you in the ILR annual Top Ten Awards program. At the end of each calendar year, the top ten point getters in each specified category will be recognized on the ILR website. You can check your standings at any time by going to: > Award Programs> ILR Universal Awards Program: Top 10.
When you joined the ILR as a youth member to participate in the UAP program, you also received a membership in the ILR-SD which also allows you to participate in the ILR-SD award system – the fifth way to win. This program differs from the UAP in that only points earned at ILR-SD sanctioned shows count towards the awards. When you have accumulated 25 points, you will receive Certificate of Achievement documenting your Activities. When you have accumulated 40 points, you will receive a Certificate of Excellence.
If your llama is registered with the ILR, it will accumulate ILR-SD points as well, giving you the sixth way to win! Certificates and championship trophies are earned by the llama at ILR-SD shows as well.
The seventh way to win might very well be the most exciting. ILR has started a program called the Youth Gelding Pot-of-Gold. To be eligible, your llama must be a gelding between six months and three years of age and be entered in the program. Participating llamas will earn points by entering and placing in the youth gelding classes at ILR-SD shows. The competition will run throughout the year and at the end of the year, the top three point getters will split a pot that is guaranteed to be at least $1500. The actual size of the pot could be larger depending on the number of geldings that are entered into the program. The prize money will be awarded at the end of the year.
As if this weren’t enough, Youth participating at the ILF-SD Gathering of Friends & Champions have an eighth way to win. Each attendee will receive “Gathering Bucks” for the points they have earned with their llamas in the Show Division for the previous year, plus Bonus Gathering Bucks for entering the current year Gathering Youth classes. Youth can use the money for the Youth Auction. Items for sale at the auction may vary from llamas to iPods to jewelry – depending on what we receive from donors. No adults will be allowed to participate in the auction.
